Machining tip #103

Carbon steels or unalloyed steels seldom have a carbon content above 1.3%. Alloyed steels are materials with essential alloying elements besides carbon and iron.

The total content of alloying elements can vary for different reasons, such as strength, wear resistance and heat treatment ability. It is not easy to classify between the two materials, therefore use the online Dormer Product Selector to find the correct AMG classification and identify the correct tool for the application.
