Sandvik Presidents launch new production hall construction

Sandvik president Stefan Widing and Sandvik Machining Solutions (SMS) president Nadine Crauwels joined Dormer Pramet president Eduardo Martin at a special event in the Czech Republic.

Together with some of their management team members, the senior leaders visited the Dormer Pramet Šumperk production unit. This is our main facility for producing indexable cutting inserts and tools. It is also home to our global research and development, training and testing facility called XP CENTER.

During the visit our production unit team presented the latest projects in the field of digitalisation and automation, such as how artificial intelligence can be used in the inspection of insert defects in the early stage of the production or online machine monitoring.

A key topic focused on previous investments into technology and machinery. These have played a key role in our ability to significantly increase inserts manufacture capacity.

As part of this, the Sandvik contingent were invited to the construction site of our planned production hall, with a tapping of the corner stone ceremony.

The 4,500 sqm facility will create sufficient capacity for further expansion of our indexable cutting tools offer.

A high level of automation and robotisation is planned for the new hall and it will also bring significant sustainability effects. This includes increased green energy production with photovoltaic panels and improved waste management capacity.
