Choose versatile as milling offer grows

A new assortment of face milling inserts and additional options to our existing high feed milling range have been launched.
We have added two economical and precise inserts (SDMT and SDET) to the Pramet brand for depths of cut up to 6.4 mm. Both are suitable for a variety of general engineering and maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) machining.
Several application-specific geometries and grades are available for machining a wide range of workpiece materials.
The SDMT 13 pressed inserts are designed with economy in mind. Its M and R geometries are suitable for light, medium and rough cuts in steel, cast irons and hard steels.
While the SDET 13 precision ground inserts, offers a sharp F geometry for secure machining of stainless steels and heat resistant super alloys. A polished, extra sharp FA geometry allows for productive machining of non-ferrous materials. An additional wiper insert XDET 13 is also available to provide high surface quality in larger diameter cutters.
Alongside the new range of inserts is now an assortment of cutters. The SSD13F comes in Weldon and Shell styles, with a wide range of sizes 32 – 250 mm (1.25 – 10.00 inch).
A carbide shim on the insert seating gives extra stability and process security, while protecting the cutter body for high durability. These new cutters also utilize internal coolant delivery to increase tool life and improve chip evacuation.
Meanwhile, we are also introducing a new strong geometry within our popular double-sided SNGX high feed milling range. The HM geometry is ideally suited for use on hardened steels and cast irons.
This addition extends the application range of the SSN11 cutter family, which already includes the versatile M geometry for steels and cast steels, and the MM for stainless steels, soft steels and superalloys.
The new HM geometry has a highly negative and narrow T-land, as well as a positive rake to reduce vibration and enable a smoother cutting action. Together, these improve the durability and process security of the inserts, prolonging tool life in the relevant materials by up to 50%, compared to the existing assortment.
